“One of my favorite things about animation is that the boundaries are as limitless as our imaginations. If we can dream it, we can make it. And if we do it well, audiences will believe it wholeheartedly.” –Dean DeBlois, director

Everybody should watch this video because, it caught JeriorLiz and I by surprise. This is the most beautiful and tear-inducing video I have seen in a long time. The video shows so many women, all women, every woman which makes this video a dedication towards all women. Many people were represented in a way that is hardly found in the mainstream media.
Many people discuss this video by stating it shows “real” women, but I really think it shows everyday women. Women of different physical and mental abilities, skin tones, age, health status, genders and sexual orientation. As the video progressed, it just got better.
Transitionally, throughout the part of the video that got me was the intensity of the emotions and the various different situations that every person was going through. Especially, with the queer representation of all ages.
Both Unknownshadeof and I completely lost it when the video portrayed an elderly woman taking off her bra revealing her mastectomy. This is emotionally heavy because, you don’t get to see women with medical/physical scars or anything close to showing any bodily ‘imperfections’ in the media.
John Legend has always been the romantic crooner who can steal a few hearts, but now he has socially stolen the stage, calling out quietly for a wider representation of the perception of ‘women’.
P.S. BROADEN YOUR PERCEPTION OF WOMEN. -unknownshadeof
Ok, listen, this is 100% one of those emotionally manipulative things and also blah another song where a dude sings about how beautiful his lady is because she doesn’t see it in herself, but shit, the video, though.
Openly weeping, is all. I am, apparently, highly susceptible to this thing.
Agreed, the song is decent but the video is worth the song. I appreciate the effort of the video.
